Headquartered on the Hamakua coast of Hawai’i, the Hamakua Institute analyzes the unique social and economic development problems facing rural communities around the world, drawing upon decades of management experience to guide companies, governments, and NGOs in promoting sustainable development.
A note on Hawaiian diacritical marks:
Hamakua Institute recognizes the use of diacritical markings of the Hawaiian language, including the ‘okina [‘] (which represents a glottal stop – a consonant) and the kahakō [-] (a macron used to indicate long vowels). Due, however, to technological constraints and our desire to provide a consistent experience around the globe, the diacritical marks will not be used on this website. Hamakua Institute will continue to use the kahakō in it's designed logotype.
